In this video I will take you through the steps of Spray Painting this Jaguar XKR Painted in Indigo Blue, Paint Code JJX using Standox Solvent Basecoat and Crystal Clear Pro HS, using a DeVilbiss GTI Pro Lite with a TE20 Air Cap, this is my first time using this new gun of mine and you will be blown away by how flat this gun can get the clear on. In America this gun is called a Tekna Pro lite, and only has a few slight differences like the colour and the US Tekna has no air valve so a regulator is recommended, something that I always use on my guns anyway.
Hi Gunny
Still loving the vids, looking forward to the new ones coming out when you move to Thailand. Don’t know if anyone else has asked but could you do one on direct gloss 2k paint defect rectification and blending as no one else on u tube seems to do it. Thanks mate, keep up the good work
Barry (UK)
Hi again Barry,
I am actually back in Thailand already so have a bit of time to spend editing for the first month then I’ll be doing some marketing in BKK and hope to get as many opportunities to paint asap but plans have changed a little, I’m not too worried yet though just enjoying the time off and as you may have noticed I’m doing a lot of work on my website, but yes I’ll do my best to make something like that up as soon as I can.
Hi Gunman,i buy Tekna PRO 703580 with 1.2/1.3/1.4 and T10/20 cap, what is difference to Prolite version?Tnx.
I just bought a new gti prolite.i can not get it to lay down silvers at all im using te20 air cap.it always looks spotty
too much fluid mate ,try a bit dryer
I like the 110 air cap I prefer a 1.2 tip for base
Hi Mr Gunman
What size fluid tip are you using here please?
1.3mm
Hey Gunny, love watching your vids bro. Hope things are getting better in Lao and we’ll see you sorted out soon. 2 questions bro if you don’t mind.
I’m using the Pro Lite with TE10 and 1.2 tip, I only use HS clears (and warm them up with Fast hardener. The only issue I have is Im still not confident with the fluid needle setting I usually run at it 2 turns out as it has mercy on me…I am amazed how slow you’re passing with that clear on this VID is this really an HS Clear or MS?? I will try to run mine at 2.5 out hopefully get better results
Hey gunman u just got the tekna prolite couple weeks ago. And I’ve been using it with the 1.4 tip and te20 aircap. I use it for base and sometimes clear. But I like to have a versatile setup. Sometimes I get glass finish and sometimes I have orange peel. I don’t know if 1.4 is to big for clear. But I also heard 1.3 is a little small for metallics. I spray at 24-26 psi range and my fluid is 2 fulls turn out from fully closed and my fan is 1 Full turn in from fully open. When the fan was fully open it had heavy spots on top and bottom. Let me know if you think my setup is correct. Or is my orange peel problem maybe coming from the body guys. Are they not giving me a smooth enough surface? When I spray brand new bumpers that have a very smooth Pre primed surface usually turns out almost like glass. Thank you for the help.
Hey mate… got a question for you… hope I haven’t put this in the wrong spot.
I have little to no experience painting. I bought a DeVillbiss FLG3 some years ago and it’s berely seen the light of day. I’m at the stage where I’d like to have a crack at painting my own cars (I’ve restored a few and normally send them out for final blocking and paint).
Booth, air supply aside (I’ll have access to a semi-downdraft booth etc) would you recommend just using the FLG3 (HVLP set up) as a primer gun and investing in a GTI Pro Lite.
If you would recommend that strategy, for a beginner would you go the TE110 and a 1.3 fluid tip over the TE20 for the sake of being a bit more forgiving (potentially) for a beginner? (for base and clear)
Best place to buy a Pro Lite? SprayGunsDirect?
Cheers mate,
What is the minimum air compressor you need to run this gun, can I hire a suitable compressor ?
Gunman, I’m getting ready to order GTI Pro Lite, T20 air cap with 1.3 Fluid tip is a good combo for clear correct? And what air cap and tip do you use on BaseCoat? Thank You for sharing your videos and taking time out to do so. Thanks again Derrick
I use TE20 1.3 for both clear and base with great results.
Is the TE 20 and 1.3 what you recommend for silver as well?
Forgot to hit the notify button. Same question. I am in the US. What Tekna set up should I get for solvent silver base, Standox?
TE20 1.3 mate
yes
I ordered the Tekna pro lite with 1.3 and 1.4, and with the TE 20 and HV30 tips. Would the HV30 for base and TE 20 for clear be the way to go or TE 20 for both be better? I have a big enough compressor for the HV 30. Thanks
Your videos are greatness
Hi, I have a gti preo lite 1.3 te 20 that configuracion recommend me to clear?
Can you spray metallic with 1.3 te20 pro lite
hello I have problem with orange skin.Im using deVilbiss gti pro lite with te20 cap and my settings are 2bar pressure full fan and 2-3 turns out fluid most of the time I’m ussing r-m diamont top clear but now my boss buy cheap clears and I’ve got a lot of problems.I watch all of your films and on your films ewerything looks perfekt:))I paint some years and i dont know what to do :(((please help me.I’m sory for misspelling my email.Best regards from poland
set your gun up to fit your style.if theres alot of orange peel turn your fluid a bit tighter.i usually do quarter turns.I usually squeeze the trigger and turn the fluid in till i feel pressure on the back of the trigger and stop.I have the 1.3 setup with the te20. i do about 5 cycles a day average.I been painting like 15 years. i love it.triggers a lil stiff but other than that great gun.i have iwata and sata but gti is my new go to for clear.
Gunny, what is the most correct Standox blending clear? Base coat colorless, or base coat stabilizer? Or something else?
Thanks
Darren, what are you doing specifically? If you’re blending over base before clear, in Standox use the 599 basecoat. However, it’s a transparent basecoat and not a clear as you mentioned, so perhaps you mean fade out thinner?
David, I am blending over prepared factory clear, ie blending a repair within a panel or blending into an ajacent panel. Fade out thinner sounds correct, but what do I apply to the part of the panel that does not yet have the new color that I am applying that I am blending into, or fading out the color blend?
My Tekna prolite with the HV 30 sprays quite well compared to my old Devilbiss Gti. ?
Fade out thinner is for clear coat, it blends the new clear in to old clear or can be used to blend-in dry edge. It is applied last of all in a paint job.
Sounds like you actually need the 599 basecoat however, you don’t need to use it, it just helps. Fading out the color of the blend is down to the painters skill. The secret to a perfect blend is to make sure you have a spot on color match before you start painting to be honest.
Thanks David. I used the 599 and it worked perfect on a medium silver and I thought the color was off just a bit. It blended fine. I could not even see my own blend
Do you have snapchat?
Hey gunny, now that you are in Thailand are you still selling your brands, ie’ T-shirts? and do you send to UK?. I think your vids are great, the longer the better! Thanks for all you work on our behalf. Stay safe 🙂

Cheers from a french subscriber !
Where does the cap say 1.3 or 1.4.
found a good clean used gun for $150.
is the TE20 a good allrounder solvent based base and clear
or the Te 110 for home painting,,
i have a good 15cfm compressor.
The fluid tip, under the air cap, has the size printed on it’s side.
The TE20 is a great all rounder. I use a TE10 to slow down a bit for a flatter finish.
Check out the DeVilbiss video on Spraygubsdirect GTIProlite page. Only 2 minutes with descriptions of 3 aircaps and 3 fluid tips.
Hiya what’s the best cap for waterbase basecoat and what size needle ?
Gunman you recommend a few of the Devilbiss guns. I am in the US. Will you please tell me where can I purchase these guns at a responsible price. I would like to have the original guns, I see a bunch of fakes on the internet. Think you for your time and your videos.
